Can we talk for a second about how strangely fitting it is that Americans are currently using fried chicken as a symbol for their values? Clogged arteries and bigotry? Obesity and repression? Sign me right up!

Now if we could just agree to use fast food to fight all of our political battles, I bet there’d be MUCH better voter turn out.

Sigh.

There are a slice of these individuals who think they are “standing up for their first amendment rights” eating chicken in droves. But the thing is … the same first amendment rights that give Dan Cathy the right to say that he does not support same-sex marriage give folks the right to say that they aren’t giving their money to a company whose values aren’t aligned with theirs. He had the right to say it; they had the right to react. Look — everyone is using their first amendment all together! Yay!

So … what are these people really standing in line for … besides chicken and denying a slice of our population basic rights?
